With the blessings of Revered Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (BrahmJi) Chancellor, SBBSU and under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, International Women’s Day saw its successful celebration on 8th March 2021 at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, the event being a joint venture by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Botany.Commencement came at 11:30 am with the welcome and the lamp lightning ceremony.The Vice Chancellor, The Registrar, SBBSU Deans, CoD, HoD of the different departments were accorded welcome by Dr Dinesh Sharma (Event manager).The Vice Chancellor acquainted the audience through his speech with the condition of women in Vedic, medieval and post independent era. He highlighted the positive changes brought through various reforms during the history of the world and also discussed how women’s were treated in earlier times. He also highlighted the fact that despitethe problems faced by women in the past, many women imprinted their names on the sands of history. He also discussed about the present situation of women and how women empowerment brought charismatic changes in the lives of women.
10 female staff members of teaching and non-teaching were honoured by the Vice Chancellor SBBSU for their excellent service stints in their respective fields. After the felicitation of women, the students of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University performed various culture events and participated in Speech, Poetry, Rangoli and poster making competitions.
At 2:00 pm the Hon’ble Chief Minister Capt.Amrinder Singh, addressed the faculty and students though online mode. He unveiled many new schemes for the betterment of women in the state. At 3:30 pm the ceremony came to its culmination with nuked natak which was performed in front of the Block no. 5.
