Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, VillageKhiala, Post Office – Padhiana, District Jalandhar, Punjab – 144030 has been established vide‘The Sant Baba Bhag Singh University Act, 2014 (Punjab Govt Act No. 6 of 2015)’, and recognized by the Government of India under the provisions of Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. Sant Baba Bhag Singh university is accredited by the NAAC with Grade – B+ (with a score of 2.66)

2. The Objectives of the University

As per clause 4of the Act, the objects of the University shall be: -

  1. to provide for instruction, teaching, education, research andtraining at all levels in all disciplines of higher educationincluding professional, medical, technical, general educationand in any other stream and subject, as per the needs of theindustry and the society in general, as may be deemednecessary by the University through all the modes of educationas may emerge or become relevant in future;
  2. to promote the academic aspirations of the rural students ;
  3. to undertake industry oriented teaching, training and research,extension programmes and to provide employable skills witha view to contribute to the development of the society ;
  4. to provide for research, creation, advancement and disseminationof knowledge, wisdom and understanding ;
  5. to encourage and motivate leading industrial houses for setting up at the campuses their respective corporate institutes for academia industry nexus;
  6. to disseminate knowledge so as to make it accessible to all strata of the society;
  7. to promote the Punjabi studies to provide for research in Punjabi Language and Literature and to undertake measures for the development of Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture; and
  8. to do all such things as may be necessary or desirable to further the objects of the University.

3. Officers of the University

As per clause 7 of the Act, thefollowing shall be the officers of the University, namely:

  1. the Visitor;
  2. the Chancellor;
  3. the Vice-Chancellor;
  4. the Registrar;
  5. the Deans of the Faculties;
  6. the Chief Finance and Accounts Officer; and
  7. such other officers of the University, as may be declared by the statutes, to be the officers of the University.

4. Authorities of the University

As per clause 14. (1) of the Act, the following shall be the authorities of the University, namely: -

  1. the Governing Body;
  2. the Board of Management;
  3. the Academic Council; and
  4. such other authorities, as may be declared by the statutes to be the authorities of the University.

(a) Governing Body

As per clause 15.1 of the Act, the Governing Body of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University shall consist of the following: -

(b) Board of Management

As per clause 16.1 of the Act, theBoard of Management of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University shall consist of the following: -

(c) Academic Council

As per clause 17. (1) of the Act, the Academic Council shall consist of the following members,namely:-

  1. the Vice-Chancellor (Chairperson)
  2. one eminent academician nominated by the State Government as its representative; and (Member)
  3. such other members, as may be prescribed (Members)

(2) The Academic Council shall be the main academic body ofthe University and it shall, subject to the provisions of this Act, the statutes,ordinances and regulations, coordinate and exercise general supervision overthe academic policies of the University.

(d) Finance Committee

As per clause 18. (1) of the Act, theFinance Committee shall consist of the following members, namely: -

(a) the Vice-Chancellor : Chairperson

(b) the Dean, Academic Affairs : Member

(c) the Registrar of the University : Member

(d) two persons nominated by the Society : Members
    out of whom one shall be a financial expert; and

(e) the Chief Finance and Accounts Officer : Secretary

The members nominated by the Society shall hold office for aperiod of two years.
