Under the aegis of IQAC, the Department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences organized a one-day workshop on soft skills aimed at enhancing students' professional and interpersonal skills by focusing on communication, leadership, and teamwork and engaging them in interactive activities for practical learning.
The present event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 120 students from different UG and PG programs, who actively engaged in discussions and posed insightful questions about the skills and challenges ofa professional Journey.
The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Smriti Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Humanities (English), Sant Baba Bhag Singh University. She delivered an insightful presentation on the importance of soft skills in shaping a successful professional career.
The session covered key areas such as:
• Communication Skills – Verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, and confidence building.
• Soft Skills vs. Hard Skills – Understanding the distinction and how both complement each other in career advancement.
• Leadership Qualities – Decision-making, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability.
To ensure practical engagement, the workshop incorporated various activities that encouraged participation and teamwork
• Panel Discussion: Students actively participated in discussing industry-relevant topics, enhancing their critical thinking and articulation.
• Group Discussions: Small teams debated on different professional scenarios, improving their ability to express opinions and engage in constructive dialogues.
• Ice-breaking Activities: Fun and engaging exercises helped students build rapport and confidence in public speaking.
Students gathered the knowledge to developeffective communication skills.Throughout the session, students were enthusiastic about explaining and listening to the necessary information. They highly appreciated the practical relevance of the session and the depth of knowledge shared by Dr. Smriti Thakur
Overall, the workshop was a highly interactive and enriching experience, equipping students with valuable skills that aided them in their academic and professional journeys. The students expressed their appreciation for the session and found the activities highly engaging and beneficial.
