Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 Celebration by University Institute of Law

Village Ghurial, District Jalandhar | 13th September 2025

The University Institute of Law (UIL), Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar, actively participated in the nationwide initiative of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025, organized under the aegis of the Government of India. The programme was conducted in Village Ghurial, District Jalandhar on 13th September 2025, under the able guidance of Dean Dr. Pooja Bali, with supervision and coordination by Ms. Manjot Kaur and Dr. Girija Nand, Assistant Professors at UIL. The event aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and awareness among villagers while engaging students in meaningful social responsibility activities and fostering a spirit of community collaboration.

Cleanliness Drive

The celebration commenced with a comprehensive cleanliness drive in the village, which formed the primary activity of the programme. Students and faculty members, in close collaboration with the Sarpanch of Village Ghurial, undertook cleaning of streets, public spaces, playgrounds, drains, and community centers. The drive involved sweeping pathways, removing dust and litter, clearing accumulated waste, and ensuring proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. Special attention was given to drains and water bodies to prevent stagnation and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. The active participation of the Sarpanch encouraged villagers to join hands with students and faculty, demonstrating that sustainable cleanliness requires collective effort.

Awareness Programme

Following the cleaning drive, an awareness programme was conducted to educate the villagers about the importance of hygiene, sanitation, and environmental responsibility. Faculty members and students led interactive sessions, discussing practical measures that residents could adopt to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Key topics included personal hygiene, proper waste disposal, segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, reduction of single-use plastics, and the significance of community responsibility in sustaining cleanliness initiatives. The sessions were interactive, allowing villagers to share their concerns and experiences, and included demonstrations on hand washing, safe waste disposal, and maintenance of clean surroundings. Informative pamphlets summarizing hygiene and sanitation best practices were distributed to the participants to reinforce the messages shared during the programme.

Faculty & Student Role

The role of faculty and students was pivotal in ensuring the success of the activities. Dean, UIL provided guidance and oversight, ensuring that the programme objectives aligned with the mission of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Faculty members Ms. Manjot Kaur and Dr. Girija Nand supervised both the cleaning drive and the awareness sessions, coordinating student groups and engaging with villagers to maximize impact. Students demonstrated enthusiasm, leadership, and effective communication skills throughout the programme. Their involvement enriched their learning experience by providing practical exposure to community engagement, teamwork, and social responsibility.

Community Participation

Community participation was central to the programme’s success. The presence of the Sarpanch and active involvement of villagers reinforced the idea that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Villagers not only assisted in the cleaning operations but also actively engaged in discussions during the awareness sessions, committing themselves to continue the practices of sanitation and hygiene in their daily lives. This collaboration between the University Institute of Law and the local community strengthened ties and promoted sustainable development at the grassroots level.

Outcome

The outcomes of the programme were significant. The immediate environment of Village Ghurial witnessed substantial improvement, with streets, public spaces, drains, and playgrounds becoming cleaner and safer. The awareness sessions enhanced the villagers’ understanding of hygiene, waste management, and eco-friendly practices, creating the potential for long-term impact on community health and sanitation. Students gained hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork, and community service, reinforcing their role as responsible citizens. The initiative also promoted the broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by demonstrating the importance of collaborative action and community engagement in achieving a cleaner and healthier India.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the celebration of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 in Village Ghurial was highly successful, combining physical cleanliness activities with awareness generation to foster a sustainable impact.
