Highlights of the One-Day Workshop on ELISA

With the heavenly blessings of Revered Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (Brahm Ji) and the benign endorsement of our Chancellor Sant Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, along with the able guidance of respected Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, the Department of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences organized a one-day workshop on ELISA on 25th April, 2024, under the aegis of IQAC and IIC.

About ELISA

The Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) is a highly sensitive biochemical technique used to detect and quantify antigens or antibodies in a sample. This hands-on training was designed to impart necessary skills and confidence to perform sandwich ELISA assays effectively and accurately, enhancing participants' research capabilities and contributing to advancements in their respective fields of study.

• Theoretical aspects: Principles and procedures of different types of ELISA.
• Applications in research and diagnostics.
• Practical implementation of the technique.

Workshop Details

• Participants: 21 PG students and Research Scholars from various disciplines of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences.
• Resource Person: Dr. Ashok Guru, a renowned Pathologist from Guru Sadh Sangat Charitable Hospital, Kalra, Jalandhar.

Session Overview

The workshop began with a welcome address by Dr. Shweta Singh, followed by the honoring of the resource person with a bouquet and memento.

First Session

The resource person delivered a detailed presentation covering sample preparation, plate coating, and reagent handling techniques.

Post-Lunch Session

Participants engaged in step-by-step protocol training for the ELISA experiment:

• Plate Coating: Coating wells with capture antibodies.
• Blocking: Using blocking buffers to prevent nonspecific binding.
• Sample and Standards Preparation: Serial dilutions of samples and standards.
• Incubation: Adding samples to the wells and allowing antigen-antibody binding.
• Detection: Adding enzyme-labeled secondary antibodies followed by the substrate.
• Signal Measurement: Reading optical density (OD) values using a microplate reader.
• Data Analysis: Plotting standard curves and quantifying unknown samples.

Outcomes

• Proficiency in ELISA experimental setup and execution.
• Skills in data interpretation and troubleshooting.
• Enhanced understanding of the importance of precision and accuracy in biochemical assays.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the hands-on approach and appreciated the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.

Conclusion

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aksh Sharma, COD, Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences. Certificates were awarded to all participants.

Overall, the training provided a comprehensive understanding of ELISA, equipping participants with skills applicable to both academic research and clinical diagnostics.
