Digital Literacy Awareness Program

1. Objective of the Activity

The primary objective of this extension activity was to spread awareness about Digital Literacy among students and residents of the rural community. The session aimed to introduce the basics of using digital devices, safe internet practices, and the significance of digital skills in modern life.

2. Summary of the Activity

The Department of Computer Science and Applications, under its community outreach initiative, organized a Digital Literacy Program at Government Primary School, Damunda, on 7th April 2025. The event saw active participation from both faculty and students of the department.

The session included:

• Introduction to computers and mobile devices
• Demonstration on using the internet for educational and informational purposes
• Importance of cyber safety and secure password practices
• Introduction to government e-services and online applications
• Interactive Q&A session with school students and community members

Interactive teaching aids, posters, and live demonstrations were used to make the learning process more effective and engaging.

3. Participants

• Student Volunteers: BCA/MCA/B.Sc. Computer Science students (Approximately 20)
• Beneficiaries: Around 40 participants including school students and local residents of Damunda village

4. Outcome of the Activity

• Increased awareness among primary school children and locals about the use and importance of digital tools
• Participants gained practical knowledge of basic internet usage and digital safety
• Encouraged school children to explore digital resources for learning
• Strengthened the University’s commitment to rural education and outreach

5. Feedback

The school staff appreciated the effort and requested more such programs in the future. Students showed enthusiasm and actively participated in the demonstrations and discussions.

6. Conclusion

The extension activity was successful in achieving its goal of spreading digital literacy. The initiative not only enriched the knowledge of the community but also provided students of the university a platform for community service and experiential learning.
