Celebration of World Kindness Day

Date: 01-12-2021

To inspire kindness and to mark the World Kindness Day, an event was organized today by the University Institute of Humanities in collaboration with the NCC unit of the university. It was held under the aegis of the IQAC.

This is a global day that promotes the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world. The day is celebrated in India since 2009, to highlight and encourage good deeds in our community. The aim is to help everyone understand that compassion for others is what binds us together. We can make a difference, one act at a time. Simple acts of kindness and compassion have a ripple effect. This understanding also has the power to bridge the gap between nations.

The event began with an address by Mr. Devinder Singh, HoD, Humanities, to the cadets of NCC, both boys and girls, and the students from UIH. He told them, in brief, the history of the World Kindness Movement and delved upon the rationale behind holding such an event. What began as an effort from the World Kindness Movement at a Tokyo conference 24 years ago is now a global movement reminding everyone of the power of kindness. He told them how, with kindness, we can overcome the divides of politics, race, religion, and gender. The students pledged to perform random acts of kindness once in a while. They felt so inspired that they resolved to collect food items and clothing to be donated to the needy.

Thereafter, the students and NCC cadets took out a rally within the university campus. They carried placards bearing slogans pertaining to acts of kindness. Lt. Jagjit Singh, the NCC officer, graciously cooperated with UIH to make the event a success. He applauded the students for participating enthusiastically in the event. It turned out to be a novel experience for the students!
