Workshop on “Outcome Based Education”

Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Institutional Innovative Cell of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University are working with prime responsibility to initiate, plan and supervise activities, which are very necessary to increase the quality of education imparted in Sant Baba Bahg Singh University.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Institutional Innovative Cell of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University organized a One-day workshop on “Outcome Based Education” on 29th November, 2021. The main objective of the workshop was to create a great awareness among the faculties on Outcome based education and the need for restructuring the curriculum. The resource person of this workshop was Dr. Satvir Singh, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala. He has also handled the responsibilities of Deputy Dean (Engineering), Deputy Dean (Planning & Development). He has developed NBA related software solution for assessment of Outcome Based Education and an online software for creating Examination Seating Arrangements. Moreover, He is an active member of Academic Council & Internal Quality Assurance Cell of IKG Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala, SBS State Technical Campus, Ferozepur and also served as member in the Board of Studies of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar and Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology, for planning and designing course curriculum. He is very eminent speaker and personality in the education field.

The workshop was started with welcome speech by Dr. Ashima Kanwar, Assistant Professor & NAAC Team Member, SBBSU and was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, Vice- Chancellor, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar. The workshop was attended by the respected Director & Dy. Directors, Deans & Dy. Deans, CoDs, HoDs, and the Faculty members of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University. It was followed by lighting of the lamp ceremony and felicitation of the guest speaker.

Dr. Satvir Singh as an eminent speaker, started his deliberation, touching the origination of the concept “Outcome Based Education” He emphasized the importance of restructuring our curriculum in such a manner that it Improves knowledge along with skill assuring employability to young graduates of any discipline. He also discussed almost all the areas of Outcome Based Education such as Programme Educational Objectives, Programme Objectives, Programme Specific Objectives, Course Objectives and how they were interlinked with one another, COs Mapping, Guidelines for Cos, Revised Blooms Taxonomy etc. He also pictured some models of Cos-POs mapping on the software. He explained the methodology of restructuring the present curriculum to suit Outcome Based Education. Participants from different departments/institutes have actively participated. The entire session was an interactive session and the speakers answered many queries regarding Cos-POs mappings raised by the participants.

The workshop concluded by a vote of thanks from Dr. Ashima Kanwar, NAAC Team Member, SBBSU. She expressed special gratitude to the resource person, for such an amazing and interactive session. She also expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of the University and the management for their constant encouragement and support in conducting the Workshop. She also acknowledged the support of Institutional Innovative Cell, SBBSU and supervision of Dr. Harpreet Arora, Director, IQAC. She gave special thanks to Director & Dy. Directors, Deans & Dy. Deans, CoDs, HoDs and other Faculty members for their participation in making the workshop a grand success. At the end of the Workshop, the Valedictory session was held. This workshop has been effectively utilized by all faculties and is likely to bring fruitful results very soon.
