Expert Lecture on International Girl Child Day

The first International Day of Girl Child was first celebrated on 11th October, 2021 to signify equal opportunities for girls and promotes about gender equality. It also focuses on the issues faced by girls worldwide because of their gender. The 9th International Day of the Girl Child 2021 is celebrated with the theme “Digital Generation, our Generation”. University Institute of Law, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, Jalandhar has organised an expert lecture in association with District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar to celebrate “International Girl Child Day”. The Chief Guest/ Key Note Speaker of the event were Dr Gagandeep Kaur, Chief Judicial Magistrate Cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar.

Dr Gagandeep Kaur explained the students about various schemes run by Legal Services Authority and the objective of DLSA that is to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities, and to organize Lok-Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes. The Speaker emphasised on the need to make girls aware about their rights. She further asserted that students can contribute a lot in this mission. Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar worthy Vice Chancellor of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, Jalandhar welcomed the guest and also made the participants aware about the significance of celebration of Girl Child Day. Dr Seema Garg, Dean, University Institute of Law assured that such events will be conducted in future also for the upliftment of knowledge of students. The Expert Lecture was organised & well coordinated by the faculty members of the University Institute of Law (UIL), SBBSU.
