The celebration of the International Year of Millets, designated by the United Nations, has been a significant global event that recognizes the importance of millets in addressing various contemporary challenges. Determination to do a work, sincere efforts and dedication are key factors for the success of an event. Department of Agriculture has proved this by successfully organizing this event under the leadership of Organizing secretary Dr. Shalu Vyas and assisted by Dr. Vikrant Jaryan (H.O.D.), Dr. Vijay Singh (COD), Dr Ajitpal Singh (Co. COD) and all staff members of Agriculture Department. The first day was dominated by lectures on Millets by experts- Professors R.K. Nanwal and Prof. K.S. Bangarwa. By highlighting the resilience of millets in the face of climate change, their rich nutritional value, and their potential to empower smallholder farmers, the International Year of Millets has not only fostered appreciation for these ancient grains but also encouraged sustainable farming practices and dietary diversity. In the second half of the day one interaction with farmers was organized. The farmers took keen interest in the deliberations by experts and staff and asked many questions regarding cultivation of millets and its economic prospects.
On second day students prepared many dishes of Millets in Horticulture Lab., under the guidance of Dr. Shalu Vyas and Dr. Manisha. The dishes like millet cookies, millet pudding, foxtail millet pulav, Bajra chappatis, Sorghum Chilla etc. were the main attractions and appreciated by staff members from different departments. The celebration culminated with organization of Millet awareness rally and blessings from Honorable Vice Chancellor sir.
