Workshop on “LATEX WRITING”

Writing a LaTeX document is a little like writing a computer program, or a web page: you write your text, marked up with commands to specify its structure, then compile this with a LaTeX interpreter, and it generates an output file that can view on screen or print- most typically a PDF file.
Department of Physical Sciences, UIS (Under the aegis of IQAC),Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar have organized One day workshop on “LATEX WRITING” on 22/07/2023 in computer centre, Block 5,SBBSU from 10am onwards.
The aim was to provide hands on practice to the learners on the aspects of doing documentation work on open source, scientific tool. This workshop targets those candidates who are not at all familiar with Latex. Dr. Satnam Singh, Assistant Professor of Physics, in Sant Baba Bhag Singh University was the Resource person of this workshop.
The workshop is divided into two sessions to facilitate each participant with all aspects of LATEX. Many faculties and research scholars of the different departments, Institute of SBBSU have participated in the workshop.
Dr. Nisha Sharma, Convener of workshop and Head of Department of Physical Sciences welcomed the candidates and briefed them about the importance of LaTeX.
Dr. Honey Sharma Convener of workshop and Coordinator of Department of Physical Sciences has formaly welcome the Expert for the workshop and elaborated the schedule of workshop.
Thirty four candidates took advantage of this workshop.
OBJECTIVES of the workshop:
In this workshop on Latex Writing, participants will :

Gain the knowledge about documentation on open source tool.
Develop basic understanding of LATEX.

OUTLINES OF THE WORKSHOP
SESSION-I (MORNING): 22/07/2023
In the first session of this workshop, Dr. Satnam Singh introduced the basic concepts of LATEX such as:

What is Latex?
Why should we use Latex?
Latex Installation and Environment Setup.
Resume Writing
Report Writing
Paper Writing
Presentation Preparation

SESSION-II (EVENING): 22/07/2023
In this Session, all the candidates practiced with LATEX templates of IEEE, Elsevier and Springer.
Feedback from Learners: Candidates experienced a special hands on practice learning session through which they got a better understanding of Latex tool and applications for it. Learners understood the importance of Latex. The content delivery was as per the needs of every candidate along with the huge interaction.
Workshop Output: Towards the end of the session-II, candidates were given an assignment on LaTeX. Every student edited IEEE research paper on Latex and gain how to insert image, sub images, equation, table, cross reference in research paper. Now they can insert all these confidently in any kind of latex format of IEEE, Elsevier and Springer. Also they learn how to make resume in different Latex format
All participants were highly delighted with the workshop and have appreciated the same. E certificates have been provided to all participants of successful completion of both session and filling of feedback form.

Resource person have also explained recent future advancements in LATEX with the help of different examples.
Workshop was highly informative and full of knowledge and a guiding tracking for young researchers.
