National Sports Day

The National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August, every year to honor the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest field hockey players in the history of the sport in India from 2012.

CELEBRATION IN SBBSU Department of physical education (SBBSU) organized a program on 29TH August, 2023 on The National sports day in which near about 200 students of different departments across the whole university got the opportunity to take part in and convey a strong message of how sports entertains and can motivate individuals in various ways, from promoting physical fitness and competition to fostering teamwork, discipline, and emotional well-being. The motivations can vary from person to person, but the overall impact of sports on motivation is often positive and far-reaching.
This grand function was inaugurated by the Shri Sant Baba Sarwan Singh Ji (worthy Chancellor of the SBBSU) in presence of S. Hardaman Singh (Secretary of SBBSU), Dr. Dharmjit Singh Parmar (Vice Chancellor of SBBSU), Dr. Vijay Dhir (Registrar of SBBSU), S. Sukhdev Singh, S. Pritpal Singh, Dr. Amarjeet singh (HOD of physical education) and Dr. R. S. Pathania (Director sports of SBBSU).
During the inaugural function welcome address was presented by Dr. R. S. Pathania (Director sports) and later worthy Vice Chancellor address the whole audience about the reason why National sports day is being organized and also encouraged the students to understand their interests, abilities and challenges in sport and to integrate sustainable development goals with respect to physical education and sports in the curriculum.
This grand event is being organized every year to provide a better platform and stage to the students to showcase their versatility and resourcefulness. The main official of this event were Dr. K.P.S Mahi (Associate Professor) and senior students of B.P.Ed.
The festival affirmed an impressive merge of two tournaments of TUG OF WAR game in which one was only for male participants and another was mixed for both male and female equally, and also many students participated in speech competition in which they got their respective positions and medals.
At the end, the host of this event (Dr. Amarjit Singh, Assistant Professor) announced the Winner and Runner ups of both the tournaments and with the presence of worthy Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, HOD of Physical education, Director sports and all the faculty of The Department of Physical Education; the respected trophies and medals were distributed with full of zeal and enthusiasm; and Dr. Amarjeet Singh (HOD Physical Education) presented vote of thanks to all the dignitaries who have expended their precious time to spend with this beautiful cause.
