Celebration of International Mountain Day

Date: 15-12-2021

International Mountain Day was celebrated on 15th December 2021 in the lieu of 11th December, Saturday in Sant Baba Bhag Singh University Jalandhar, under the supervision of Honorable Chancellor, Sant Sarwan Singh Ji and Vice Chancellor Dr. Dharamjit Singh Parmar under the aegis of IQAC, SBBSU on 15th December, 2021. The event commenced 3:00 pm onwards with a theme of “Sustainable Mountain Tourism”. This event was organized with an aim to promote sustainable tourism, additional and alternative livelihood options in the mountains, and to eradicate poverty, promote social inclusion and biodiversity conservation. The event started with the presentation by Dr. Kumari Manisha, Team Member, ESM Cell regarding the strategies to promote sustainable tourism. The speaker elaborated in details how the ecosystem of mountains is under tremendous pressure due to climatic changes, rising pollution and overexploitation. It was then followed by presentation by the student participants in the form of essay or debates. Around 17 students became an active participant during this event. Overall, this event created awareness about the protection of our mighty mountains that have traditionally attracted great number of tourists, adventure lovers, mountaineers, skiers besides forest experts etc.
