Date:28-09-2022
World Rabies day is celebrated on 28th September to mark the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur, a great microbiologist who first developed the rabies vaccine. It was first celebrated in 2007 to raise awareness about zoonotic disease “RABIES”.
- Under the aegis of IQAC, the department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences, SBBSU in collaboration with an NGO, SARV KALYAN WELFARE SOCIETY, PUNJAB, organized a community awareness drive on 26th September 2022 in the village of Padhiana.
- About 52 students of B.Sc MLS, Semester -3 and MSc Medical Microbiology sem-1 participated in the event.
- The major objective of the drive was to educate and make people aware of deadly viral disease “RABIES” its prevention and treatment.
- The general public was informed in brief about the disease, its causal agent, mode of transmission, pathogenicity and available treatment options through direct communications (in their local language) with them as well as using charts and posters
- As per the information available with NCDC (National center of Disease Control) 99% deaths in India arise due to bite of rabid dogs, so prevention from dog bites and do’s and don’ts of post dog bites were highlighted part of the campaign.
- The local community workers and their children were guided how to prevent dog bites as well as how to behave in case of dog attacks
- They were also informed that immediate wound cleansing and immunization within a few hours after contact with a suspect rabid animal can prevent the onset of rabies and death.
