One Day Workshop on “Research Methodology”

Date:13-05-2022

With the heavenly blessings of Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (Brahm Ji) under the supervision and patronage of Honorable Chancellor, Sant Sarwan Singh Ji and Worthy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dharamjit Singh Parmar, the University Institute of Sciences (UIS) organized one day Workshop on “RESEARCH METHODOLOGY” on 13th May 2022. The Resource person for the event was Dr. Onkar Singh Brraich, Associate Professor from the department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala. The event was inaugurated with the formal welcome of the chief guest Dr. Onkar Singh Brraich by Dr. Aksh Sharma, COD, Dept. of Life Sciences. The worthy Vice Chancellor of the university honored the chief guest during the inaugural function.
In order to carry out quality research, approach of systematic experimental design and conduct is highly mandated. In this regard, a workshop on “Electron Microscopy and its applications in present day research” was organized for the students pursuing both graduate and postgraduate courses. `The major objective of the workshop was to impart theoretical and practical introduction to the working principle, operation and applications of latest technique of research. The expert provided lively and extremely informative discussion of topics interspersed by valuable hands-on exercises through live demonstrations about both Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). These instruments are used to investigate the ultrastructure of a wide range of biological and inorganic specimens including microorganisms, cells, large molecules, biopsy samples, metals, and crystals. SEM provides high resolution images of objects of Nano sizes whereas TEM images provide the view of a sample at molecular level that allows researchers to analyze structural and textural details of material under investigation. It also enables the investigation of crystalline structures, orientations and chemical composition of the phases. Dr. Brraaich also emphasizes the need of practical training in the latest and ultra-modern instruments to carry out quality research.
Around 60 students from different streams of life sciences and allied courses participated in the workshop. All the faculty members of Life Sciences also attended the workshop. E-certificates were awarded to all the participants. The workshop was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Shweta Singh, Dean UIS, SBBSU. She also appreciated and motivated the participants for their enthusiastic approach throughout the session.
