Visit to Mohendra Chaudhary Zoological Park/ Chhat Bir Zoo

With the heavenly blessings of Sant Baba Dilawar Singh Ji (Brahm Ji), under the supervision and patronage of Honorable Chancellor, Sant Sarwan Singh Ji and Worthy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dharamjit Singh Parmar, the Department of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences visited Mohendra Chaudhary Zoological Park/ Chhat Bir Zoo, Zirakpur, Punjab on 11th May, 2022. The aim of the visit was to provide an opportunity to students to explore the scientific concepts and provide some recreation time. Around 33 students from M.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology and B.Sc. Medical courses, accompanied by 3 faculty members of the UIS department visited the Zoological Park. During the visit, students got an opportunity to witness variety of species, besides enjoying scenic beauty.
Lion Safari: Students got a chance to witness king of animal kingdom roaming around in their habitat. It was a jungle journey in a caged vehicle with all 33 students going through evergreen lush forests of the Zoo.
Apart from spectating enchanting big cats in the zoo, students got an opportunity to witness various other species of animal kingdom including barking deer, cranes etc. The list of animals witnessed by students was:
Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Indian Elephant, Hippopotamus, Sambar Deer, White Buck, Swamp Deer, Asiatic Lion, Panther Leopard, Jaguar, Indian Wolf, Sloth Bear, Jungle Cat, Asian Palm Civet Cat, Indian Fox, Hyena, Mugger Crocodile, Indian Python, Jackal and other mammals, birds and reptiles.
Various characteristic features and behaviour of animals were explained to the students by the faculty members. Students enjoyed the visit very much. The Zoo was undoubtedly a living epitome of heritage we should be proud of.
