Free Blood Group Testing Camp

Department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khaiala, Jalandhar organized a “Free Blood Group Testing Camp” in collaboration with public welfare society SEWA BHARTI, HOSHIARPUR in the village Sahri, Hoshiarpur on 28th May, 2022. The objective of camp was that everyone should know his/her blood group so that no time is wasted at the time of emergency prior to blood transfusion. Moreover, the data obtained was provided to the local community health center to keep record for future use. The second aim of the camp was to create awareness among the rural masses regarding blood group, blood donation and blood related disorders.
In the camp, more than 50 volunteers participated and underwent free blood group testing. The tests were done on the basis of ABO and Rh typing i.e A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+ and O-. The whole activity was managed by the UG and PG students of Medical Laboratory Sciences under the able guidance of their faculty members: Dr Shweta Singh, Dr Aksh Sharma, Dr Chetna Sharma, Ms Sonia, Ms Satvir and Ms Himani. Among all volunteers, one of the volunteer was recognized with rare blood group A negative and was motivated to donate the blood on regular basis. Besides diagnosis, the villagers were also told about the hematological disorders with special emphasis on anemia.
At the conclusion of the camp, Dr Shweta Singh, HOD, honored the president Sh. Darshan Kaushal and accompanying members of the associated NGO with mementoes. All the villagers and the Sarpanch of village, participated devotedly and insisted to organize such events frequently with more advanced testing procedures in the rural sites to spread awareness regarding importance of blood group diagnosis and blood donation.
