Contributions of Science in sustainable future

University Institute of Sciences has celebrated National Science Day with theme “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future” from 28 February, to 4th March 2022 as National Science Week. Theses events are a gathering of hundreds of thoughtful, innovative doers, who share a common interest in practical solutions for current Environmental issues. As part of scheduled activities, on 3rd March,2022, University Institute of Sciences have conducted an awareness compaign in village Manko (SBBSU' adopted village) with the theme entitled “Contributions of Science in sustainable future" .

Aim of this activity is to provide awareness regarding various aspects and contribution of science in sustainable development. Dr Shweta Singh (Coordinator, Life Sciences &Allied Health Sciences), Dr Aksh Sharma (Assistant Professor, Life Sciences &Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Nisha Sharma(Coordinator, Physical Sciences, Dr Shalu (Coordinator, Agriculture), Dr Manisha (Assistant Professor, Botany), Ms Ramandeep Kaur(Assistant Professor, Physiotherapy), Ms Meena (Assistant Professor, Physical Sciences) have conducted this drive. During awareness drive:Students and faculty of Department of Life Sciences and Alllied Health Sciences have provided awareness regarding Covid 19, its spread, symptoms and prevention measures. The 8 essentials steps for washing hands along with other hygiene practices was demonstrated to the locals with the help of charts and posters. Various basic diagnostic tests especially the blood tests and its significance was elaborated. Besides, this students have also discussed the Rhematoid Arthritis, its signs and symptoms, and the diet that should be followed to prevent the ill effects of this disease.

Students & faculty of Physiotherapy have discussed about different Physiotherapy techniques, Exercise therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and other illness.Students &faculty of Physical Sciences make people aware about harmful effects of plastics, Management of plastic waste and segregation of plastic waste.They have stressed to shift toward use of jute, fabric bags to minimize use of single use plastics.Recycling of waste plastic to usable articles such as flower pots, plastic bricks have also been demonstrated.Students also have discussed harmful effects of radiations, preventive measures from exposure to radiations as well.

Students &faculty of Agriculture have discussed about modern tools and techniques of Agriculture. They also have demonstrated how to shift from conventional farming to organic farming. Audience have highly appreciated the efforts of students and faculty of SBBSU for organizing this drive.
