Activity Report
On 19th May 2026, the Faculty of Agriculture at Sant Baba Singh University organized an
educational visit for final-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students to the Farm’s Produce
Promotion Society (FAPRO) in Bhunga, Hoshiarpur. The primary objective of the visit was
to offer hands-on experience in agro-processing, value addition, farmer-led enterprises, and
agricultural entrepreneurship.
The students were warmly received by S. Arbind Singh, a Member of the Board of
Management and a proud alumnus of the university’s Department of Agriculture. He escorted
the students through the organization’s various processing and production units and shared
insightful information about FAPRO’s operations, emphasizing its role in supporting farmers
and fostering agricultural entrepreneurship.
S. Arbind Singh elaborated on the functioning and significance of the turmeric processing
unit, where students observed the complete process—cleaning, processing, grinding, and
packaging of turmeric. This practical exposure helped them understand the importance of
value addition in improving the quality, marketability, and profitability of agricultural
produce.
The students also visited the honey bee processing unit, where they learned about honey
extraction, filtration, processing, and packaging. This experience deepened their
understanding of beekeeping and honey processing as a viable allied agricultural enterprise
and a potential supplementary income source for farmers. Students actively engaged with
experts, clarifying their doubts about processing techniques and quality control.
Additionally, S. Arbind Singh showed the students the sales counter for farmer produce,
which displayed and marketed a range of processed and value-added products made by local
farmers. Through this interaction, students learned how farmer producer organizations
facilitate direct marketing, promote entrepreneurship among farmers, and reduce the role of
intermediaries, thereby securing better financial returns for producers.
Overall, the educational visit offered valuable insights into entrepreneurial opportunities in
agro-processing, value addition, branding, packaging, and marketing of agricultural products.
It also strengthened the students’ understanding of how farmer producer organizations
contribute to sustainable agriculture and rural development. The visit proved to be highly
informative, enriching, and beneficial in providing practical learning experiences beyond the
classroom.
