Nurturing Nature, Honouring Mothers: SBBSU's Successful Plantation Drive for Environmental Conservation

With the blessings of Chancellor Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, and the steadfast encouragement of S. Hardaman Singh Minhas, Secretary of the Sant Baba Bhag Singh Charitable Memorial Society, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University organized the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" Plantation Drive on 5 th June, 2026 under the flagship campaign of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), reaffirming its enduring commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
During the event, Dr. Kulbir Singh (Dean, FOA) provided strategic oversight and administrative direction, while Dr. Gurpreet Kaur (HOD, FOA) handled operational execution, student engagement, and on-ground coordination. Their efforts aimed to foster environmental awareness, expand green cover, and inspire students and staff to actively participate in nature conservation. The drive also sought to deepen the emotional connection between individuals and the environment by encouraging participants to dedicate a tree to their mother - a gesture symbolizing gratitude, care, and responsibility.
Faculty members including Dr. Kanika Pandey, Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Vijay Singh, and Dr. Robin, along with undergraduate students and other staff members, enthusiastically planted a variety of saplings across the university campus. Participants learned about the vital role trees play in maintaining ecological balance, mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations. The plantation activity served as a practical step toward cultivating environmental stewardship within the university community. Attendees pledged to nurture and protect the planted saplings and to adopt eco- friendly practices in their daily lives.
The event received active participation and wholehearted support from all participants, making it a meaningful and impactful initiative. Through this plantation drive, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University reaffirmed its dedication to environmental sustainability and inspired its community to contribute toward a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
