Event Report
Aahaar Kranti is the initiative of the government of India aimed at improving balanced nutrition and lifestyle in the country. The major objectives of this mission are to increase awareness about the importance of balanced nutritionand to address issues like obesity, diabetes and hypertension by promoting a balanced diet and healthy eating habits.Under this mission, teachers are being trained so that they can convey the message of this mission to the students.
To contribute towards the achievement of the stated objective, the Department of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences (under the aegis of IQAC)organized a One Day Seminar On “Aahar Kranti: Uttam Aahar, Uttam Vichar” on 15th May 2024 in collaboration with Global Indian Scientists and Technocrats (GIST). There were two resource persons for the event:
- Dr. Priyanka Aeri, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Sciences, Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara
- A total of 45 students and 5 facultymembers of the department attended the workshop.
- Dr Radhika Hedaoo,Assistant Professor, Nutrition and Dietetics Program Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts, Symbiosis International University, Pune
The seminar was conducted through a blended mode. The event started with an inaugural address by Dr. Shweta Singh, Dean UIS & HOD, Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences followed by the formal welcome of both resource persons;Dr Priyanka Aeri and Dr Radhika Hedaoo.
The first resource personof the seminar Dr. Priyanka Aerihighlighted the rich nutritional value of traditional Indian foods such as millets, pulses and green leafy vegetablesand motivated the participants to shift towards healthier food choicesand prioritize their health and well-being.
The second resource person, Dr. Radhika Hedaoo, connected with us through virtual mode. In her presentation, she highlighted the significance of a balanced diet as the foundation of a healthy life.Sheemphasized consuminglocally available essential dietary components toprevent the development of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetesandseveral forms of cancer.She insisted upon avoiding unhealthy foodsand making consistent positive choices that are essential for maintaining a balanced diet to support long-term health goals.
About 107 students from various disciplines of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences department along with 10 faculty membersattended and benefitted from this session.
Also, all seminar participants pledged to follow Aahaar Kranti's objectives, such as eating balanced meals, avoiding unhealthy foods, promoting locally sourced produce, or advocating for food security and sustainability.
The seminar was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Aksh Sharma, coordinator, Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences department.
