This significant event was organized with the heavenly blessings of Reverend Sant Baba Dilawar Singh Ji (Braham Ji) and under the constant motivation of Sant Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, Hon’ble Chancellor, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University. The competition was held under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar and Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, Dean Academics, who played instrumental roles in shaping the success of this initiative.
The program was conducted under the aegis of the University Institute of Law, in collaboration with IQAC, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, and NSS, ensuring academic rigor and professional guidance throughout the event.
The Sant Baba Malkit Singh Memorial 1st National Moot Court Competition was inaugurated on 24th September 2025 at the University Auditorium with great enthusiasm and reverence. The two-day national event marked a significant milestone in the academic and professional journey of the University, aiming to encourage legal awareness, advocacy skills, and critical thinking among budding lawyers across the nation. The competition witnessed participation from more than 20 reputed law institutions from across India.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Sant Manmohan Singh Ji, Hon’ble Chancellor, SBBSU. The Chief Guest of the day was Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Vice Chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala. The event was further graced by Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, Dean Academics, Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, University Institute of Law, Deans of various institutes, and members of the Sant Baba Bhag Singh Memorial Charitable Society.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, UIL, who introduced the vision behind organizing this national-level moot and officially declared the competition open by striking the gavel—symbolizing the commencement of the two-day legal battle of intellect and advocacy.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh emphasized the growing importance of moot courts in legal education. He highlighted that such platforms sharpen advocacy, research, and courtroom skills while instilling discipline, ethics, and professionalism in students.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar elaborated on the significance of law in shaping society and commended the University Institute of Law for hosting such a prestigious national event.
The day concluded with the Researcher Test, Preliminary, and Quarter-Final Rounds, where all participating teams showcased their arguments before distinguished judges, setting the tone for a rigorous legal contest.
The second day began with the Semi-Final Rounds, where four shortlisted teams competed for a place in the Grand Finale. The sessions were intense and marked by outstanding research, structured advocacy, and persuasive argumentation.
The Grand Finale was graced by eminent dignitaries and witnessed an enthralling display of legal acumen. The proceedings were presided over by Sant Manmohan Singh Ji, Hon’ble Chancellor, SBBSU, in the august presence of Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
The Chief Guest and Chief Panelist of the Grand Finale was Hon’ble Justice (Retd.) R.K. Garg, Punjab and Haryana High Court, accompanied by Advocate B.S. Khaira, Standing Counsel for the Government of India and Senior Panel Counsel at Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh.
In his keynote address, Justice (Retd.) R.K. Garg stressed that law is not merely a profession but a noble vocation rooted in justice and service to humanity. He appreciated the University for creating a platform that simulates real courtroom experience, fostering analytical reasoning, persuasive advocacy, and ethical conduct.
Advocate B.S. Khaira also addressed the gathering, appreciating UIL for hosting a national platform that nurtures research, drafting, and argumentation skills essential for a successful legal career.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, emphasized the importance of professional competitions in preparing students for real-world challenges and reaffirmed the University’s vision of promoting practical legal education.

The two-day event celebrated academic excellence, advocacy, and ethical professionalism, reaffirming the University’s commitment to nurturing responsible and skilled legal professionals.
The competition concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, UIL, who extended heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Chief Guest, dignitaries, faculty, student coordinators, and all participants for their invaluable contributions.
This inaugural national moot court competition will be remembered as a milestone in the University’s academic legacy — a platform that bridged legal theory with practice, inspired young advocates, and promoted a culture of legal scholarship and excellence.
