Hiking and Trekking Camp at Nara, Hoshiarpur
The Hiking and Trekking Camp at Nara, Hoshiarpur, organized from April 9 to April 13, 2026, was conducted by the Youth Services, Government of Punjab, under the aegis of the Punjab Government in collaboration with the Youth Welfare and NSS Unit of SBBS University. The camp aimed to provide students with an adventurous and educational outdoor experience amidst the scenic Shivalik foothills.
A total of 29 NSS and Youth Welfare volunteers from the University participated enthusiastically in the five-day camp under the guidance of Director Youth Welfare, Shaina Parmar, and NSS Nodal Officer, Virender Kumar. The camp combined physical activities, leadership development, environmental awareness, and teamwork exercises to strengthen the confidence, endurance, and discipline of the participants.
Through trekking across varied terrains and engaging in outdoor learning activities, students developed leadership qualities, self-reliance, cooperation, and a deeper appreciation for nature and environmental conservation.
The main objectives of the hiking and trekking camp were:
Participants arrived at the base camp in Village Nara and attended an orientation session regarding camp discipline, trekking guidelines, and safety measures. Students were also introduced to “Leave No Trace” environmental ethics, campsite management, and tent-pitching techniques.
A moderate trekking session was organized through nearby forest trails to help participants adapt to the terrain and climatic conditions. Students learned breathing techniques, pacing methods, and basic trekking discipline during the activity.
The third day involved the most challenging trekking expedition of the camp. Participants explored higher elevations of the Shivalik foothills and received practical training in navigation techniques using compasses, trail indicators, and natural markers. Group trekking activities encouraged teamwork and leadership among NSS and Youth Welfare volunteers of SBBS University.
Nature study sessions were organized to familiarize students with the local flora, fauna, and biodiversity of the region. In the evening, a bonfire and cultural program were arranged where NSS and Youth Welfare volunteers of SBBS University shared experiences, performed cultural items, and engaged in group discussions, strengthening mutual understanding and team spirit.
The final trekking descent was completed successfully by noon. A valedictory session was organized in which NSS and Youth Welfare volunteers of SBBS University shared feedback and reflected on their experiences during the camp. Certificates of participation were distributed before departure.
The Hiking and Trekking Camp at Nara, Hoshiarpur, proved to be a highly beneficial and memorable experience for all participants. Organized by Youth Services, Government of Punjab, in coordination with the Youth Welfare and NSS Unit of SBBS University, the camp successfully promoted adventure, discipline, leadership, and environmental awareness among the volunteers.
Under the guidance of Director Youth Welfare, Shaina Parmar, and NSS Nodal Officer, Virender Kumar, the participants developed confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a positive outlook through various trekking and outdoor learning activities. The camp also encouraged students to appreciate nature, practice environmental responsibility, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. Overall, the camp successfully fulfilled its objectives and provided valuable experiential learning to all participants.
