PROVISIONS OF SEXUAL HARRASMENT OF WOMENS AT WORK PLACE
The University Institute of Law, under the aegis of IQAC, SBBSU and in collaboration with DLSA, organized PROVISIONS OF SEXUAL HARRASMENT OF WOMENS AT WORK PLACE the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 is a key legal provision in India aimed at ensuring the safety and dignity of women at work. It defines sexual harassment broadly to include unwelcome physical contact, advances, sexually colored remarks, showing pornography, and any other unwelcome verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. The Act mandates the establishment of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at workplaces with 10 or more employees to address complaints in a timely and confidential manner. It also outlines procedures for inquiry, provides protection against retaliation, and emphasizes the employer’s responsibility in conducting awareness programs. The law seeks to create a safe and respectful working environment for women, free from harassment and discrimination. to commemorate the encouraging a more informed and responsible citizenry. with the aim of encouraging students to reflect upon and creatively express the values and ideals. This significant event was organized with the heavenly blessings of Sant Baba Dilawar Singh Ji (Braham Ji), and under the constant motivation of Sant Baba ManMohan Singh Ji, Chancellor, SBBSU. The competition was held under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dharamjit Singh Parmar, the administrative support of Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Vikas, and the academic stewardship of Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, Dean Academics, who all played instrumental roles in shaping the success of this initiative. The program was also conducted under the aegis of Organizing unit/agency collaborating agency: University Institute of law/UnderAegis of IQAC & District Legal Service Authority, Jalandhar/NSS, which enriched the event with its legal outreach and commitment to constitutional values. Their collaboration added further credibility and legal insight to the students’ artistic and intellectual efforts. The event was coordinated under the able guidance of Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, University Institute of Law, who served as the Convener of the competition. Her unwavering dedication to promoting legal awareness and academic excellence was evident throughout the event. Mr. Rishav Dogra delivered an informative lecture to the students on the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. He explained that the Act aims to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for women by addressing issues related to sexual harassment. During the lecture, he highlighted the types of behaviour that constitute sexual harassment, including unwelcome physical contact, inappropriate comments, and any other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. He also informed the students about the mandatory formation of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in every organization with 10 or more employees to handle complaints in a confidential and time-bound manner. Rishav Sir emphasized the responsibility of employers to conduct awareness programs and create a workplace free from discrimination and harassment. The session was highly informative and helped students understand the importance of legal safeguards for women in professional spaces. The competition concluded with a reflective address from the dignitaries, appreciating the talent and social sensitivity exhibited by the participants. A heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, University Institute of Law was extended to the management, organizing team, participating students, and the DLSA for their unwavering support in making the event a grand success.
