Summary & Objective
As part of the Agrotech Kisan and Community Mela, the Department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences conducted a Health Camp to promote health awareness and provide basic medical services to farmers, rural communities, and visitors. Organized under the headship of Dr. Ashok Guru, MBBS, MD (Pathologist), in collaboration with Guru Nanak Sadh Sangat Charitable Hospital (Kalra), this camp reflected the university’s commitment to holistic rural development, integrating agricultural advancements with community health and well-being.
Highlights of the Camp
- Free health check-ups and consultations for farmers and community members.
- Blood, plasma/serum tests, serological tests, and X-ray facility at very affordable rates.
- Awareness sessions on common rural health issues, hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care.
- Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Bhai Ghaniya Charitable Blood Bank and Hospital, Hoshiarpur:
- 23 volunteers (including 7 first-time donors) donated blood.
- Donors received refreshments and appreciation certificates.
- Physiotherapy treatment camp offering general and special treatments at subsidized rates.
- 46 students assisted with registration, sample collection, on-site testing (blood grouping, random blood sugar), sample transport, report generation, and record-keeping.
- Majority of visitors received same-day hard copies of reports; remaining were sent via e-copy.
- Over 78 individuals availed services—primarily farmers, women, and elderly members.
- Visitors expressed gratitude for accessible quality healthcare and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in rural areas.
Impact & Future Plans
The camp successfully integrated health awareness into the broader theme of rural and agricultural development. It provided immediate medical assistance while emphasizing preventive care and healthy living. The university plans to continue and expand such health initiatives at future community events.
