As part of the 16 Days of Activism for Ending Gender-Based Violence and in compliance with UGC guidelines, the Department of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University organised an awareness talk titled “Prevention of Child Marriage and Reporting Mechanisms” under the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The session aimed to sensitize students about child marriage, its legal implications, preventive strategies, and available reporting mechanisms.

Objectives

To educate students about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA).
To highlight the social, psychological, and health impacts of child marriage.
To create awareness about helplines, one-stop centres, and reporting channels.
To motivate students to act as responsible youth ambassadors in preventing child marriage.
To support the national mission of Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat.

Resource Person

Dr. Shweta Singh, Dean, University Institute of Sciences (UIS), Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, delivered the session. Dr. Singh shared detailed insights on the consequences of early marriage, relevant legal frameworks, and the role educational institutions can play in eradicating child marriage.
