Under the aegis of IQAC and Institutional Innovation Cell, the University Institute of Sciences organized a One-day Seminar on Women Empowerment: A Global Perspective on 13th May 2025 in the university campus. The event was collaboratively organized with the Gender Champion Cell of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University.The event aimed to educate students about the role of women in development and their need for equal participation in all aspects of life. The seminar commenced with an inaugural address, followed by an introduction to the Seminar, and an Expert speaker of the day by Dr. Chetna Sharma, Coordinator, Department of Life Sciences and Allied Health Sciences. The keynote speaker of today’s session was a renowned international professional, Ms. Navpreet Parmar, a General Manager, Plumbing in Canada. The session acknowledged the current status of women across the globe and the persistent challenges faced by women worldwide, including discrimination, violence, lack of access to education and healthcare, and limited participation in economic and political spheres.In her presentation, the speaker emphasized the intersectionality of women’s issues across countries, focusing on education, employment, political participation, and access to healthcare. She also shared strategies for promoting gender equality and highlighted success stories that inspire change. More than 100 participants, including students and faculty members from various disciplines of all other university departments, attended this webinar. At the end, the speaker took all the queries from the audience and responded to each of them with great zeal. At last, Dr. Shweta Singh, Dean UIS, gave the concluding remarks and delivered the vote of thanks to the Speaker and all participants. She appreciated all the participants for their enthusiastic participation and keen interest in social engagement and responsibilities, and emphasized that one should make such learning opportunities meaningful. Overall, the Seminar was concluded with a strong message: Women’s empowerment is not just a women’s issue—it’s a global issue. It reaffirmed the importance of sustained efforts, global cooperation, and inclusive policies to ensure that women everywhere can live with dignity, opportunity, and equality.
