Workshop Report: Building Mobile Apps with Flutter

Introduction

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a one-day workshop titled "Building Mobile Apps with Flutter" on 30th September 2024. This event was held under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), and the University Computer Applications (UCA) Club. The workshop was aimed at introducing participants to Flutter, a modern open-source framework developed by Google for building high-performance, natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase.

Objective of the Workshop

• Familiarize participants with Flutter and its applications in mobile development.
• Introduce the basics of Flutter's framework and architecture.
• Enable students to build a simple, interactive mobile application by the end of the session.
• Provide insights into the career opportunities in mobile application development using Flutter.

Workshop Highlights

The session was conducted by Mr. Navneet Sheoran, a seasoned Flutter and Android developer and trainer from ThinkNEXT Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mohali. With his extensive industry experience, Mr. Sheoran provided an engaging and comprehensive overview of Flutter. His presentation covered the following key topics:

• Introduction to Flutter Framework: Mr. Sheoran began by explaining the significance of Flutter in modern application development and discussed the unique features that make Flutter stand out among other frameworks.
• Setting Up the Development Environment: A step-by-step guide to installing and setting up Flutter on different operating systems was provided. The participants were guided on how to configure an integrated development environment (IDE) for Flutter.
• Widgets in Flutter: One of the core aspects of Flutter is its widget-based architecture. Mr. Sheoran explained how widgets serve as the building blocks in Flutter and demonstrated creating UI components with ease.
• Hands-On Application Development: Participants were actively involved in building a simple application. This hands-on session allowed them to practice implementing essential features and gave them an insight into designing a responsive mobile UI using Flutter widgets.
• Q&A and Career Insights: The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session where participants could clear their doubts and gain insights from Mr. Sheoran regarding the industry demand for Flutter and potential career paths in mobile app development.

Conclusion

The workshop was a highly interactive and educational experience for all participants, sparking interest and providing a solid foundation in Flutter for further exploration. The event received positive feedback from the attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from an industry expert and gain practical knowledge about mobile application development.
