With the heavenly blessings of Revered Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (Brahm Ji) and with the benign endorsement of our Chancellor Sant Baba Sarwan Singh ji, and under the valuable guidance of respected Vice Chancellor of SBBSU Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, University Institute of Sciences, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University has organized National Seminar on “Effects & Consequences of Radiation in current scenario”. Eminent Speakers for the seminar were :
Dr Ranjit Singh,Medical Physicist (PGIMER-Chandigarh), India
Ms.Jyoti D (Head,MRIT,Sushant University-Gurugram), India.
Dr Ranjit Singh is Medical Physicist (PGIMER-Chandigarh), India. He has acquired his Ph.D (Radiation Physics) from Panjab University Chandigarh. He has an experience of more than 10 years. Dr Singh has acquired various training from renowned hospitals such as Tata Memorial Hospital and Radiation Medicine Centre, Parel, Mumbai., Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute Ahmedabad (Gujarat). He has also worked as Medical Physicist cum Radiation Safety Officer at IGMC, Shimla and Medical Physicist at BLK Hospital, New Delhi. He has expertise in External Beam Source Change( 60Co), treatment time calculations and involves in various academic activities. The main area of interest of Dr Singh includes Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image Guided Radiotherapy(IGRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT), High and low dose rate Brachytherapy, Stereotactic radio surgery and radiotherapy (SRS and SRT) and patient in-vivo dosimetry. Apart from this , Dr Singh has more than 20 Publication in referred journals, more than 20 paper presented in international/national conferences and 2 book chapter published in his credit.
2nd Expert of the seminar was Ms Jyoti D is working as Assistant Professor & Head of Medical Radiology & imaging technology (MRIT) Department, School of Health Sciences, Sushant University, Gurugram, UP, India. She has vast teaching experience in medical radio-imaging technology from different universities of North India. Ms Jyoti had clinical experience at Columbia Asia hospital, SGT hospital and research institute, Sharda hospital and NIMS hospital. She is an active member of ISRT (Indian Society of Radiographers & Technologists). She has several publications in national and international journals and presented papers in national and international conferences. Aim of the seminar is on “Effect & Consequences of Radiations in Current Scenario” is an initiative about the awareness and protection from radiation here with scopes in routine life and modern medical practices for students and faculty of sciences & Technology. Approximately 768 participants from 20 universities/institutes have attend this seminar and extended warm gratitude toward our eminent Speakers.
Seminar was inaugurated by Dr Indu Sharma, Registrar SBBSU in dignified presence of Dr Dharmjit Singh Parmar worthy vice chancellor SBBSU. Sir expressed profound interest in the theme of the seminar. Dr Nisha Sharma, Dy Dean, University Institute of Science addressed the delegates and shared the glorious history of the university. The increasingly large impact of radiations and radiation techniques in medical sector has been discussed. This seminar has provided an exposure to students and faculty of different disciplines about the importance, of radiation therapy and different radiation based tools used in diagnosis and treatment. Experts have provided detailed information regarding radiation safety and ration protection norms. Experts have also discussed different types of radiations, their effects and consequences in today’s scenario. Experts have discussed basic principle and clinical knowledge and have focused upon different radiation tools used in diagnosis and in medical therapy. Students, faculty have learnt various new techniques, and tools based on radiations for different applications. This seminar was quite valuable for students of applied sciences, faculty of different disciplines and for research scholars of different fields. Resource person have explained recent advancements in radiation therapies especially which are used as diagnostic tools, sensors, nanomedicines, bone repair.
This seminar was full of knowledge and a guiding tracking for young researchers. Dr Shweta Singh, Dean UIS &Convener, Dr Nisha Sharma, Dy Dean UIS & Convener, Coordinators of different departments of UIS, Dr Harpreet Singh Kainth seminar organizing secretary, Mr Rajdeep Singh Thidwar seminar organizing secretary, and all faculty members of UIS have contributed remarkable to make this event successful. Dr Shweta Singh, Dean UIS and Convener of seminar had paid vote of thanks to all the delegates and participants and paid gratitude to the university authorities for providing their support in organizing the seminar.
