The department of Agriculture was established in 2015 aims at achieving excellence in academics and agriculture
research. Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in Agriculture are offered by the Department. The Department offers a
dynamic environment for education in graduate and post graduate courses of Agriculture. The Department has
well qualified and experienced doctoral faculty of diverse fields of Agriculture. Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant
Breeding, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, Agroforestry, Agro-Meteorology and Agro -Biotechnology. The
Department has designed dynamic and focused curricula as per the guidelines of Indian Council of Agricultural
research (ICAR) to develop well-trained manpower for academics, agro-based industry and extension oriented
applications. To keep in pace with the advancement and requirement of the agricultural education system, the
department adopted the revised academic curricula recommended by different Dean’s committee from time to
time to maintain the standard of teaching. The Graduation curriculum has been designed as per ICAR’s 6th
Dean Committee and curriculum of Post-Graduation as per ICAR-BSMA recommendations. Each field of
specialization is headed by highly qualified faculty and supported by Department has well equipped laboratories
with state-of-the-art instrumentation. The thrust areas of the department include multi-disciplinary research in the
fields of agriculture and its allied ventures. The Department is well-equipped with spacious classrooms and
laboratories to provide quality teaching and research opportunities for the students. The students are also
imparted training in the field through conduct of research trials and demonstrations.
The Department has cultivation fields for conducting research trials and practical experiment for students. Beside
these facilities, the Department has also established the orchards of Litchi, Citrus, Mango, Guava, Phalsa,
Peach and Dragon Fruit Farm. The department has established a Poly house and shade net in area to train
the students in the protected cultivation.
The Department organizes various educational tours, Kisan Mela and visit to research institutes of excellence to
acquaint the students about various knowledge in regular bases.
The Department also organizes various workshops on Career Counselling and hand on training programs to
students and farmers by inviting experts in the university such as Beekeeping, Vermicomposting, Mushroom
Culture and other extension activities i.e. Farmers Scientists Meet, Field Day which help to gain knowledge and
expertise to farmers and students.
To become the leading centre for providing student – responsive education, rural development and enhancing the quality education including farmer–responsive training and providing the services for development of Agriculture and agro-industry by using latest technology and modern infrastructure.
To evolve younger generation for suitable, sustainable and cost-effective agricultural production and protection technologies and by acting as a catalyst for the growth of agro-based industries in Punjab.
