Report on Somnath Swabhiman Parv

The Department of History (UIH) and the Youth Welfare Department of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khiala, Jalandhar, jointly organised Somnath Swabhiman Parv on 14 August 2026 at the Language Lab, Block No. 3. The programme was organised to commemorate the rich historical and cultural significance of the Somnath Temple and to highlight the themes of faith, resilience, civilizational continuity and cultural pride. The event commemorated 1000 years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026 CE and 75 years since the reconstruction and consecration of the present Somnath Temple in 1951. The programme provided an opportunity for students to reflect upon the historical journey of the temple and its significance as a symbol of resilience and cultural continuity.
On the occasion, Dr. Hardev and Ms. Shaina Parmar addressed the students. They spoke about the historical importance of Somnath and its place in India's cultural and civilizational heritage. Their address encouraged students to understand history through the perspectives of heritage, continuity, resilience and the preservation of cultural traditions. The speakers emphasised that knowledge of history and heritage plays an important role in developing a deeper understanding of society and strengthening a sense of responsibility towards cultural heritage. The students listened attentively and actively engaged with the ideas presented during the programme.
The celebration also highlighted the importance of remembering the past while looking towards the future. The theme of the programme “A Celebration of Faith, Resilience and Civilisational Pride” provided a meaningful framework for reflecting on the enduring nature of India's cultural traditions and the importance of preserving heritage for future generations. The Somnath Swabhiman Parv was a meaningful academic and cultural initiative that brought students and faculty together to engage with an important chapter of India's history. The addresses by Dr. Hardev and Ms. Shaina Parmar added depth to the programme and encouraged students to appreciate the values of historical awareness, cultural heritage, resilience and responsible citizenship.
The programme concluded successfully with a sense of pride in India's historical and cultural heritage and a renewed emphasis on learning from the past while working towards a stronger and self-reliant future.
