EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO PAU, LUDHIANA

With the heavenly blessing of Revered Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (Brahmji ) and with the benign endorsement of Honorable Chancellor Sant Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, under the valuable guidance of Respected Vice Chancellor Dr. Dharmjit Singh Parmar, and support of Dr. Vikas (Registrar, SBBSU) and Prof. Dr. Vijay Dhir (Dean Academics), Dean and HoD,University Institute of Agriculture (UIA) organized educational tour regarding mushroom cultivation on 20th February 2025, with 35 students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture for their Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for 8thsemester under supervision of Dr. Nalini Singh, Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Jatin. Students visited Dr. H.G. Mushroom Laboratories in Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana,Punjab. The educational visit was aimed to sensitize students about various steps of mushroom cultivation such as composting, spawning casing and insect pest management practices in mushroom under Experiential Learning Program (ELP).
Dr. Shivani and Dr. Jaspreet (Assistant Professors) and HeadDepartment of Microbiology Dr. Urmila demonstrated all chambers of mushroom cultivation unit viz., turning chamber, composting chambers, spawning chambers and growing chambers (controlled and non -controlled conditions). The cultivation of mushrooms requires specific conditions, such as 80-90% humidity and temperatures ranging from 16 to 23°C for Straw mushrooms.They cultivated Agaricusbisporus, Shiitake, Oyster mushrooms in their laboratories. The market today offers an array of mushroom-based products, including mushroom pickles, seasonings, beverages, extracts, dried and canned mushrooms, mushroom supplements, and even cosmetics. In recent years, advanced technologies have been developed to improve mushroom farming efficiency and productivity. This trip develops entrepreneurship skills in students for their future.
