Report:
The Department of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (SBBSU), organized an expert talk titled “A Glimpse into the Quantum World” on 23 October 2026 under the aegis of IQAC and IIC, with the able guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Palwinder Singh, and the Dean Academics, Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 150 faculty members, research scholars, and students.
Prof. Arvind delivered an insightful lecture on the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and emerging developments in quantum science. He explained the First and Second Quantum Revolutions, highlighting the contributions of quantum physics to technologies such as semiconductors, transistors, and lasers, as well as advances in controlling individual quantum states.
The expert discussed quantum entanglement and its applications in quantum cryptography, quantum key distribution, and quantum teleportation. He also elaborated on quantum contextuality and its significance in understanding quantum measurement and computational advantages.
Furthermore, Prof. Arvind highlighted emerging applications of quantum computing, sensing, and metrology. He encouraged students and young researchers to nurture scientific curiosity, question conventional assumptions, and explore research opportunities in advanced quantum technologies.
Outcomes and Significance
The expert talk enriched participants’ understanding of fundamental and contemporary quantum physics, strengthened scientific curiosity, and provided valuable insights into emerging research areas and technological applications. The interaction encouraged research-oriented learning and motivated students to explore future developments in quantum science.
Conclusion
The programme was an academically enriching initiative that promoted scientific inquiry and awareness of emerging quantum technologies among students and research scholars. The Department of Physical Sciences expressed its gratitude to the resource person and all participants for contributing to the success of the event.
