Activity Report
A Field Day was organized on 6th May, 2026 at Village Arhana by the faculty members of the Department of Agriculture to provide practical knowledge and technical guidance to farmers regarding sustainable agricultural practices. The programme was conducted by Dr. Shalu Vyas, Dr. Satish Kumar, Dr. R. K. Patel, and Dr. Vikrant Jaryan of Faculty of Agriculture, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University.
As wheat harvesting is currently in progress, farmers were advised to grow filler and green manure crops such as Dhaincha before paddy transplantation. The experts explained that incorporation of Dhaincha improves soil fertility by increasing nitrogen content naturally and helps in reducing the use of urea in the next crop. Guidance was also provided regarding paddy nursery management, newly released paddy varieties, and scientific cultivation practices suitable for Punjab conditions.
The farmers discussed disease problems in sugarcane crops, and suitable management practices were suggested by the experts. Information regarding soil solarization, integrated nutrient management, and balanced use of inorganic fertilizers was also shared. The experts emphasized that excessive and improper use of fertilizers adversely affects soil health, water quality, animal health, human health, and the environment.
Dr. R. K. Patel guided farmers about maintaining proper farm records related to inputs, expenditure, and crop yield for better farm management and profitability. Dr. Vikrant Jaryan highlighted the importance of ecological balance and environmentally safe agricultural practices.
Dr. Shalu Vyas guided farmers regarding sustainable horticultural practices, soil health management, and scientific crop management techniques for improving productivity and maintaining long-term soil fertility.
The Field Day proved highly informative and beneficial for farmers as it provided practical solutions to current agricultural problems and promoted sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices.
