• Under the aegis of IQAC, IIC, University Institute of Sciences Viz Department of Physical Sciences, SBBSU organized an extension cum donation drive with mentoring and recreational theme.
• Aim of the activity was to sensitize students towards the most vulnerable group of our society including old age people and differently abled people. Engaging students in such activities nurtures essential values and skills that contribute to their holistic development.
• Under this activity, a group of about 23 students visited an orphanage “Apahaj Ashram, Jalandhar” on 3rd April, 2026
• The visit was managed and executed by two faculty members Dr. Sonia Bansal (AP, Physical Sciences) and Ms. Arwinder Kaur (AP, Physical Sciences).
• The primary objective of the visit was to expose students to the living conditions, challenges and needs of the residents of an Apahaj ashram. This visit has developed empathy and compassion towards them.
• The student reached the Apahaj ashram at about 10:30 AM. Firstly, they interacted with all residents and listened to their life stories and experiences. This allowed them to empathize with the challenges faced by them and understand their perspectives.
• The students and faculty also volunteered to assist with tasks such as serving meals, sweets and providing companionship to the residents. This hands-on experience enabled them to connect with them on a personal level and witness the impact of their actions.
• Overall, the visit was a meaningful and transformative experience for the students and provided them valuable insights into the lives of the most vulnerable groups of our society.
• Such activity could enhance the understanding of social needs, fostering a spirit of compassion and social responsibility among young generation which could develop understanding of human values and responsibility toward society of every citizen. Such interactions will inspire students to become agents of positive change in their communities.
