Cyber Jagrit Bharat – Extension Activity on Cyber Security Awareness

Introduction:

With the heavenly blessings of Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji (Brahm Ji) and the benign endorsement of Hon’ble Chancellor Sant Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar (Vice Chancellor), Mr. (Prof.) Rajinder Kumar (Registrar), and Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir (Dean Academics).

Every year, the month of October is celebrated as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) to promote awareness regarding the safe and responsible use of the internet. In alignment with this initiative, and under the campaign “Cyber Jagrit Bharat”, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, organized an Extension Activity at Government Senior Secondary School, Kalra.

Objective:

The objective of this awareness program was to educate school students about Cyber Security and Cyber Crime, and to encourage them to adopt safe practices while using digital platforms and online resources.

Details of the Activity:

The activity was led by Er. Manpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, and Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Lab Technician, Department of CSE.

The session began with a detailed and informative lecture by Er. Manpreet Singh, who introduced students to the concept of Cyber Security and explained its growing importance in today’s digital era. He discussed various types of online threats such as phishing, malware attacks, and social media scams, along with preventive measures to ensure digital safety.

Following this, Mr. Gurpreet Singh conducted a practical demonstration explaining the concept of IP (Internet Protocol) and how it functions to connect and identify devices over the internet. This practical session gave students hands-on insight into the working of network systems and security mechanisms.

Students from B.Tech CSE 7th Semester also actively participated by delivering short presentations and discussions, further enhancing engagement and understanding among school students.

The session concluded with an inspiring address by the Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Kalra, who appreciated the initiative taken by Sant Baba Bhag Singh University. He emphasized the importance of cyber awareness, highlighted common cybercrimes, and advised students to remain vigilant and responsible while using digital devices and social media.

Outcome:

The event was highly informative and interactive. School students learned about various aspects of cyber safety, responsible internet usage, and the importance of protecting personal data. The activity successfully fulfilled the objectives of the Cyber Jagrit Bharat campaign by spreading awareness and empowering young learners to become responsible digital citizens.
