With the heavenly blessings of Reverend Sant Baba Malkit Singh ji and Sant Baba Dlawar Singh ji
(Brahm Ji) and benign endorsement of Honorable Chancellor, Sant Manmohan Singh ji, and under
the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, Worthy Vice Chancellor, the University Institute
of Engineering and Technology successfully organized a One-Day Workshop on “Cybersecurity:
Challenges and Opportunities”.
The workshop was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculty
regarding emerging cyber threats, digital safety, and opportunities in the field of Cybersecurity.
The event was graced by Sardar Harvinder Singh Virk, SSP Jalandhar (Rural), Punjab, as the Chief
Guest. The Guest of Honour included Shri Ravinder Pal Singh, SHO, Adampur, Punjab, and Shri
Mukesh Kumar, SP, Punjab.
The programme commenced with a soulful Shabad Gayan presented by Er. Navpreet Singh and his
team, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Thereafter, Ms. Anita from the Department of
Punjabi introduced the audience to the rich legacy of SBBS University, highlighting its
establishment, achievements, and various academic institutes.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, Vice Chancellor, emphasized the growing
significance of Cybersecurity in the digital age and highlighted the need for educational institutions
to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to tackle evolving cyber challenges.
A ceremonial welcome followed, featuring the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and floral
welcome of the distinguished guests. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were felicitated by the
Hon’ble Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and members of the Sant Baba Bhag Singh Memorial
Charitable Society (SBBSMCS) in recognition of their valuable contributions to society and public
service.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the “Cyber Security Awareness Campaign – For a
Safe Digital Tomorrow” at SBBS University. Through the distribution of informative pamphlets,
the campaign aims to empower and protect the university community from online threats and
cybercrimes.
Delivering the keynote awareness lecture, Sardar Harvinder Singh Virk, SSP Jalandhar (Rural),
sensitized students and faculty members about prevalent cyber threats, online frauds, cybercrime
trends, and the misuse of Artificial Intelligence. He also shared valuable insights into the initiatives
undertaken by the Cyber Crime Department to combat digital crimes and advised participants on
best practices for staying safe online. Encouraging experiential learning, he invited students to visit
the jail and Cyber Crime Branch to gain firsthand exposure to the latest technologies and
operational practices employed by law enforcement agencies.
The workshop further featured insightful technical presentations by students of CSE (AI & ML) 4th
Semester, along with experts and officials from Coder roots, Mohali, Tech Cadd, Hoshiarpur and
Ansh Infotech, Ludhiana. The experts conducted interactive sessions and hands-on exercises
focusing on the identification of cyber threats, cybersecurity tools, ethical online practices, and
preventive measures for digital security.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 150 students of the
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, 20 faculty members of UIET and Deans of
various institutes of SBBS University. The participants significantly enhanced their understanding
of Cybersecurity challenges and opportunities, thereby successfully achieving the workshop’s
objective of creating cyber awareness among youth.
The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Kaur,
Dean, UIET, and Convener of the Workshop, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests,
speakers, organizing committee members,faculty and Staff members, and students for their valuable
contributions toward making the event a grand success.
