Activity Report
1. General
Industrial visits are an essential part of engineering education, especially in the field of Civil Engineering, where practical exposure plays a crucial role in understanding theoretical concepts. The Department of Civil Engineering organized an one-day industrial visit to Nurmahal City Centre under NIRMAAN CLUB for B. Tech Civil Engineering students to provide them with firsthand knowledge of construction practices and site operations. There a colony is being under construction in three phases; Commercial Shops, shopping malls and Residential Buildings.
This visit was conducted as a part of the academic curriculum with the aim of bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. It allowed students to observe ongoing construction activities and understand how engineering principles are implemented in practice.
2. Objectives of the Visit
The industrial visit was organized with the following objectives:
3. Details of the Visit
The visit was well-organized, and proper arrangements for transportation and safety were ensured by the department.
4. Description of the Construction Site
The visited site, Nurmahal City Centre, is a commercial construction project designed to accommodate Commercial Shops, shopping malls, Residential Buildings other business establishments. The project involved multi-storey construction with modern architectural planning.
The construction site was active, with several operations taking place simultaneously. The students observed different stages of construction, including foundation work, structural framework development, and finishing activities. The site layout was properly planned, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient use of space and resources.
5. Activities and Processes Observed
During the visit, students observed the entire site where different construction activities were undergone and the students also learned about them. The details of the construction activities undergoing there at site are discussed below:
5.1 Site Layout and Planning
Students were introduced to the site layout, including placement of materials, machinery, and temporary structures. The importance of proper planning for smooth execution was explained.
5.2 Excavation and Foundation Work
The initial stages of construction such as excavation and foundation laying were discussed. Students learned about soil excavation, leveling, and preparation for foundation work.
5.3 Reinforcement Work (Steel Placement)
Students observed reinforcement work in beams, columns, and slabs. The arrangement and tying of steel bars were demonstrated, highlighting their importance in providing strength to structures.
5.4 Formwork (Shuttering)
The use of formwork for shaping concrete structures was explained. Students learned how shuttering is placed and removed after concrete gains sufficient strength.
5.5 Concrete Work
Concrete mixing, pouring, compaction, and curing processes were observed. The use of concrete mixers and vibrators for proper compaction was demonstrated.
5.6 Masonry Work
Brickwork and wall construction techniques were also observed. The importance of alignment, mortar mix, and finishing was explained.
5.7 Finishing Work
Students were shown plastering, flooring, and other finishing activities that enhance the appearance and durability of the building.
6. Equipment and Machinery Used
Students learned about the proper use and maintenance of these tools.
7. Safety Measures at the Site
Students were made aware of the importance of maintaining safety standards to prevent accidents.
8. Interaction with Site Engineers and Staff
An interactive session was conducted with Site Engineer Er. Gagandeep Singh and Supervisors. They explained:
Students were encouraged to ask questions, which helped them gain deeper insights into practical aspects of civil engineering.
9. Learning Outcomes
10. Advantages of Industrial Visit
11. Challenges Observed
12. Conclusion
The industrial visit was an enriching and informative experience for all the students. It helped in strengthening their understanding of civil engineering concepts and provided valuable exposure to real-world construction practices. Such visits play an important role in shaping the professional skills of students and preparing them for future careers in the construction industry.
13. Acknowledgement
We express our sincere gratitude to the management of Z Axis Homez Engineering Solutions for allowing us to visit their construction site. We also thank the site engineers and staff for their guidance and support.
Special thanks to Er. Harish Sharma, Departmental Training & Placement Officer, other faculty members and Dean UIET who helped in making this visit a great success.
